On Friday, Mr Hillary Obutu was arrested at Nyamira and taken to Magistrate court in Kisii where he was found guilty of failing to repay Sh300,000 to his debtor.

And the judge jailed him for 30 days but risks spending six months behind bars should he fail to repay the debt within the next one month according to complainant's lawyer.

"This is just a civil sentence. He eill spend thirty days at Kisii Prison failure to repay the debt, he will further spend six months in behind the bars," said Wilkins Ochoki.

But his freedom could be short-lived should he manage to get out of prison after thirty days given that another debtor has obtained warrant of arrest against him.

"He is just going nowhere. He must clear the debts. I have obtained a warrant of arrest and I will pounce on him once he gets out. He has failed to clear me Sh200,000," said the debtor in confidence.

While the debtors claim that they had assisted him with the money as a loan, it has emerged that he promised to secure employment for them at the county, a task he failed to deliver.
