A suspected police impostor was on Tuesday nabbed while masquerading as an administration police officer in the streets of Eldoret Town, Uasin Gishu County.
According to Eldoret West OCPD Zachariah Bitok, the man who was in full police uniform was soliciting bribes from bodaboda operators and hawkers outside Barngetuny Plaza.
The police boss said that the suspected fake officer was nabbed by angry bodaboda riders at around 8 am, before the police rescued him as the crowd threatened to lynch him.
The police boss said that they swang into action after being alerted that one of them was being beaten up by the public, only to realize that he was a fake corp.
“Somebody informed our office that a police officer is being beaten up by motorbike operators along Mt. Kenya University streets, but after interrogation, they noticed he was not an officer. It is fortunate that he is still alive, they saved him from death,” he told the Standard.
According to David Yego, a witness and a bodaboda rider, the suspect was also armed with ammunition and had a handcuff with him at the time.
He added that he almost landed into the conman's trick before street children discovered he was a fake, resulting in a serious beating from the public.
