Odinga was in Muhoroni alongside three Cabinet Secretaries for a feasibility study ahead of the creation of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the area.

Odinga was reportedly heckled by those opposed to the establishment of the project in Ombeyi Ward, when he spoke on the need to free up 500 acres of land in order to make the project a reality.

Governor Nyong’o did not accompany Odinga to Muhoroni as he was away on an official trip to Denmark.

He has, however, apologised to the ODM leader on behalf of the people of Kisumu County.

“It is regrettable that a small band of engineered “naysayers” who have deliberately decided to resist development in the county as a whole purely for political mileage decided to embarrass our guests. For this I apologise,” said Nyong’o in a statement released by the Director of his Press Unit Alloys Ager.

“But we shall not be deterred from continuing with changing Kisumu’s economy for the better to please a few visionless people,” he added.
