Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has identified a police officer whom he claims has always been harassing him since he came to power after the 2017 general elections.
Malala says that the officer who he only identified as Kimtai has arrested him five times in a single year, including his Friday arrest in Kisumu over the Matungu killings in Kakamega.
The Senator suspects that Kimtai, who is the Directorate of Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO) in Malava, is being used by top police officers opposed to his leadership, hence the harassment.
"Huyu Kimtai amenishika mara tano kwa mwaka mmoja. Mbona ni yeye kila wakati anatumwa kunishika? Yeye ni DCIO wa Malava, mbona alikuja kunishika Kisumu? (Kimtai has arrested me five times in a year, how come he is the one always being sent to arrest me and why did he have to come all the way from Malava to arrest me in Kisumu)?" Malala asked.
The lawmaker who was speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha Show on Wednesday also lamented about the officer's conduct, terming him rude, harsh and unprofessional.
He said that his lawyers have always had it hard engaging the police boss as he doesn't understand English, wondering why he has been entrusted with the job.
"Hana hata etiquette na heshima na hata hajui kizungu. Imekuwa hata vigumu kuelewana na mawakili wangu kwa mambo ya kisheria (he lacks the etiquette, respect and knowledge of English which had made t hard for my lawyers to engage him on legal matters)," noted Malala.
