Malala was arrested in relation to the Matungu killings and was held at the Kisumu Police Station before his unconditional release on Sunday evening.

However, the Senate now wants the two security chiefs to explain themselves, accusing security officials of turning the critical justice system into a mechanism to harass politicians without carrying out prior investigations.

"This House must make sure Matiang’i and Mutyambai are summoned and made to explain whether arresting innocent people is in the Constitution or other laws that we don’t know. And I think we know all the laws than them. They must come here and explain,” said Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo as quoted by People Daily.

His remarks were echoed by his Nakuru counterpart Susan Kihika and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior who on Wednesday insisted that Malala is innocent.

At the same time, members of the National Assembly are also after the two following the arrest of their Nakuru East counterpart David Gikaria who was arrested in a land row between him and former Mayor Mohammed Surraw.

Gikaria was nabbed in Nakuru's Pipeline Estate after allegedly raiding a piece of land belonging to Surraw with an intention of setting up business stalls for his constituents.

The lawmakers accused the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) of being lazy and watching silently as security apparatus harass and victimise innocent Kenyans.
