The push for referendum heightened on Wednesday hours after Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali, a close ally of DP William Ruto joined the camp.
Over the weekend in Kisumu, ODM leader Raila Odinga insisted that the plebiscite to change the country's mode of governance was unstoppable thus leading to the debate.
And a section of MPs from Gusii, who at one point backed DP Ruto's as ascendancy to power, backed Odinga's call for referendum.
"I am convinced that this country should adopt parliamentary system so that everyone can feel part of us. This is what can reduce ethnic animosity amongst us," said Borabu MP Ben Momanyi at a function in his constituency.
He added: "Some of our problems are anchored in imperial presidency and we must tackle the issue."
Also joining calls is Nyamira County MP Jerusha Momanyi, who said referendum will help unite the country for good.
"Nobody should oppose the referendum. It's for good for this nation and I am optimistic that ethnic bigotry will crumble."
In April, Ruto dimissed calls for referendum adding that proponents wants to create more positions in government.
His statements came a few days after meeting a host of MPs from Gusii region where they resolved to back him.
