Mudavadi who was speaking to NTV on Sunday during an interview said he has no plans of joining the government as he is comfortable being in the opposition as he continues to "put the government in check".

From the time President Uhuru Kenyatta met opposition leader Raila Odinga at Harambee house in Nairobi, rumours have been making rounds especially on social media of a looming Cabinet reshuffle and part of the claims say that Uhuru plans to appoint opposition leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Mudavadi to the government.

"My party, Amani National Congress is committed to the cause of the opposition," Mudavadi said during the interview.

"In a good democracy, society has to have those who are in the government as well as those who are in a working opposition. As Amani National Congress out position is that we do not have to abscond our duty as the opposition."

Mudavadi is among leaders in the country who have been critical of the March 9 handshake between Uhuru and Raila saying the event was conducted with a lot of secrecy.

He says he still does not know what the two leaders discussed when they met.
