Two people lost their lives as nine others sustained serious injuries after the vehicles they were traveling in were involved in an accident along Mombasa road.

Athi River deputy OCPD Salim Komora confirmed the incident saying that the accident happened at Lukenya, Athi River in Mavoko sub county.

The two died on the spot in the morning hours accident involving a sand-ferrying lorry and a bus belonging to MASH POA company.

"The accident happened at around 1:30am at Lukenya area killing two on the spot and injuring nine," said Komora.

The deputy OCPD said that the driver of the lorry which was heading to Nairobi from Mombasa tried to overtake several cars before colliding head+on with the bus which was heading to Mombasa.

Those injured in the accident were rushed to Shalom Community hospital and Machakos Level Five hospital for treatment.

Bodies of those who perished we're moved to Shalom hospital mortuary.

The remains of the vehicles involved in the accident were towed to Athi River police station awaiting inspection.
