President Uhuru Kenyatta enjoys massive respect from members of the Luo community.
This has further been boosted by his newfound friendship with opposition leader Raila Odinga, the Luo ultimate leader.
And though he has since transformed from one of the most hated leaders in that side of the nation, he has always been admired.
Here are some of the good nicknames Luos have deployed to describe the Head of State.
1. Jatelo
This simply translates to 'the leader' a name seeking to demonstrate his positioning as the ultimate leader of the nation and the nation's father.
The nickname is given to persons who are considered above the others and enjoy massive respect.
2. Namba Achiel
The nickname translates to 'number one', considering that he holds the top office within the nation's boundaries.
He is also the person who gets the first opportunity at doing everything, making him the first person in the country.
3. Ker
Ker is the official name for the President in the Luo vocabulary.
The tittle is also preserved for the Luo traditional king, the chair of the Luo Council of Elders, meaning that Uhuru shares the tittle with Ker Willis Otondi.
4. Wuod Otike
This is the most informal nickname for the President, usually employed in political gossip spots dominated by Luos.
It translates to 'the son of the man with a beard', the old man being founding father Jomo Kenyatta who had a bush-like beard.
