Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has urged Ukambani residents to start registering as voters in readiness for the 2022 general election.
Ngilu said Kambas must register as voters and participate in the 2022 polls in order to change the region's development sphere.
Speaking in Kitui South on Friday, the NARC party leader vowed to spearhead voter registration exercise at the grassroots.
Ngilu said Ukambani residents should forget about a share of resources from the national government unless they register as voters ahead of 2022 elections.
Ngilu claimed that Ukambani has for a long time been used as 'rubber stamp' by other communities.
“We are not going to allow ourselves to be used as 'rubber stamps' and 'flower girls' when it comes to national politics,” Ngilu said.
She urged all the elected leaders from the Kamba nation to rally their electorates to register as voters.
Ngilu said it is high time Kamba leaders worked together for the region's development and unity.
She defended the recent formation of the Peoples Empowerment Movement (PEM), noting it will be a game changer in the region's development.
Ngilu said the movement will champion for equality, not only in Ukambani but other parts of the country.
Governor Ngilu alongside her counterparts, Alfred Mutua (Machakos) and Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni) said they formed the movement to champion development in the entire Ukambani region.
The governors have, however, received backlash from a section of local politicians who claim the movement is aimed at fighting Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
