First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has said that she is not a happy lady after statistics showed the increased rate of violence, addiction, depression and injuries among adolescents in Kenya.
Speaking at an event dubbed ‘Adolescent health–the Missing population in Universal Health Coverage’ held on the sidelines of the ongoing 72nd World Health Assembly in Geneva, she appealed to different stakeholders to pull up their socks in the fight to save the lives of adolescents in Kenya, and the entire world.
The First Lady noted that the youth are a strong pillar of the economy, and they need attention all the time.
She reiterated her commitment to deliver better healthcare before President Uhuru Kenyatta completes his second and final term in office.
“The First Lady expressed concern that available statistics showed higher rates of violence and injuries, addiction, depression and mental health issues among adolescents and the youth in general, which she said is an indication that their health needs require more attention,” she said.
She also rooted for mainstreaming of adolescent health in Universal Health Coverage programmes.
The First Lady promised to work with different groups from all over the world to ensure that standards of health care provision are better than before.
