Eldoret is undoubtedly the City of Champions. This is a title that came about as a result of the numerous world-class athletes that hail and live in town and its environs.
One doesn’t need a microscope to notice how athletics have put Eldoret on the world map.
My point of contest in this piece is all about the four-time London marathon winner Eliud Kipchoge.
Kipchoge deserves to be honoured with a statue in the heart of Eldoret town. He has achieved what hundreds of upcoming athletes dream of achieving.
The manner in which he brilliantly defended his London marathon on Sunday beating some of the world’s best long distance runners was simply amazing.
His discipline, positive attitude, commitment, selfishness and hard work are absolutely key to his success. Kipchoge’s behaviour both on and outside the track are very ethical.
He has brought positive fame not only to North Rift but to Kenya, Africa and the world. His achievements will forever remain in historical books.
By mounting his statue in Eldoret town, it will serve as a motivational tool to other athletes.
Besides, it will symbolize a hero who has brought glory to his home turf.
