Here some of the uses of ash you should know.

1. Preserve seeds

Wood ash can be used in place of an insecticide in preserving the grains. Weevils are the main insects that affect grains. Sprinkle wood ash on the dried grains and store them for as long as you can wish.

2. Insect repellent

Wood ash repels away insects such as ants, safari ants and cockroaches. Sprinkle some ash around the affected area and they will disappear after a short time. For cockroaches, sprinkle the wood ash at the corners of the house and you will never see the roaches again.

3. Neutralize acidic soil

Wood ash contains up to 70 per cent calcium carbonate which is the best substitute for lime.

4. Keep pests away

Wood ash can be used as a substitute for pesticide. Spread the ash to the plants affected with the pests and they will disappear.

5. Odor control

It controls bad smell in shoes. Dust the shoes with ash and leave them in the sun to get rid of the smell. You can also dust your kitten or puppy when it has a bad smell.

6. Stain remover

Wood ash can help in removing stains from your furniture, sink or toilet dish. All you need to do is to mix water with wood ash and use the solution in cleaning the affected areas.
