Roads, Transport and Infrastructure minister in county government of Homa Bay Mr Donny Opar is dead, police reports have indicated.
In his Twitter handle, KTN journalist Ali Manzu said Rachuonyo North police boss Nelson Ojuok has confirmed that the county minister was shot dead on Friday night.
"Homa Bay County Transport CEC Donny Opar shot dead by unknown people, Rachuonyo North police boss Nelson Ojuok confirms," Manzu wrote on his Twitter handle.
Orange Democratic Movement party Director of Communications Philip Etale also confirmed the death on Saturday, although he did not give further details.
"Homa Bay CEC in charge of transport and infrastructure Philemon Dony Opar shot dead by unknown assailants in Kendu Bay town," wrote Mr Etale.
Mr Donny was a first time county minister in Governor Cyprian Awiti's government. Apparently, Governor Awiti is in Germany for a medical leave.
The county government is currently under the leadership of Deputy Governor Hamilton Orata, who was temporarily mandated to execute duties of the governor in April this year.
But according to Nation Media Group investigative journalist Nyambega Gisesa, Mr Opar was shot dead at Big 5 Hotel in Kendu Bay.
"Reports indicate that Homabay County CECM Transport and Infrastructure Donny Opar has been shot dead at Big 5 Hotel in Kendu Bay," he said.
