A girl in Samburu is recuperating in hospital after she was reportedly defiled by a man well known to her and her family.

According to Marallal town Chief Salina Lemakara, the 11-year-old class six girl was defiled in Losuuk area in Samburu Central on Monday.

The administrator added that the suspect remains at large after slipping into hiding immediately after committing the alleged offence.

She added that she is handling the matter and will see to it that the accused is nabbed and subjected to the law.

“I will follow up to ensure that the man is arrested, prosecuted and jailed because he committed a very inhumanly act,” she was quoted by the Friday Standard.

The girl is admitted at the Samburu County Referral Hospital, where she has been nursing injuries she sustained when she was defiled.

The hospital's Medical Superintendent Silas Lodokei said that doctors have since stabilized the victim who is now recuperating.

“This patient was brought, we examined and took her to the theatre where she was treated and now the patient is in the ward in stable condition,” said the doctor.

Area Nyumba Kumi Chairperson Solomon Wanyeki urged men in the area to stop ruining the lives of young girls.
