Deputy President William Ruto's perceived opposition to fight against corruption could sabotage his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, Cherangany MP Joshua Kutuny has warned.

On Sunday, Kutuny said should Ruto succeed Uhuru, nobody will question his decisions given his often defense for governors accused of stealing public resources.

"Some people think we are targeting them in graft purge. Jubilee is now divided into two. There is a team under President Uhuru Kenyatta which is fighting corruption and uniting Kenyans. We also have another Jubilee which defends corruption.

"It's absurd that when dams scandal was being investigated, someone was the first to say no more had lost. When Governors Waititu, Moses Kasaine and Okoth Obado were being investigated, he defended. Assume that person becomes president, basically you won't question him. He will be a dictator," he said.

Mr Kutuny and a host of leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta have been leading onslaught against the DP, accusing him of various graft scandals. They also claim that he will introduce dictatorship in the country.

A fortnight ago, Ruto defended Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu from alleged misuse of taxpayers money. The move attracted criticism from among Kenyans and leaders.

“In the Kiambu budget, there are no issues of retired presidents, and nothing about South Sudan or State House. Baba Yao (Mr Waititu’s political nickname) should only be asked Kiambu issues,” Mr Ruto said.

In Rift Valley, Kutuny, Moiben MP Silas Tiren and Nandi Hills legislator Alfred Keter, have been critical of Ruto's leadership. Their differences emerged from controversial payment of maize farmers.
