Machakos County Boss Governor Alfred Mutua has said that he doesn't support the introduction of new taxes, noting that Kenyans are suffering.
In a post on his official Facebook page on Thursday, the governor has said that the prices of essential commodities and services such as food, transportation, fuel and power should be reduced and not taxed.
"Kenyans are tired; in actual fact what is needed is a subsidy programme that funds food production and distribution so that the price of unga, rice, cooking oil and other essential commodities come down to affordable levels," read the post in part.
Mutua who is currently in Mombasa, also commented on the budget estimates released by Treasury CS Henry Rotich, arguing that Sh1 trillion deficit should not be plugged by new taxes.
"We need other ways of raising the money such as reigning in on wastage, reducing the exaggerated cost of projects, ensuring fast completion of projects, efficient service delivery and stop the massive theft of public funds," Mutua said.
The vocal county boss who has declared interest in the 2022 presidential race noted that youths in the country are working so hard but earn very little because of the depressed economy and unemployment.
"These youths are part of 'Tumechoka' movement which I'm leading. We are tired of being taxed when the money we pay is stolen by a few honchos whose work is to cut deals and bribe churches using our stolen money so that we can be taxed more," he added.
