Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago has banned ‘disco matangas’ across the county with immediate effect.
The governor says the move is as a result of the fact that disco matangas are the main cause of increased cases of increased teenage pregnancies in the county.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret town on Wednesday, Mandago said those who will be found defying the order will face the full force of the law.
He pointed out that Turbo Sub County is the most affected in terms of teenage pregnancies.
“I am giving a stern warning that as a county government we cannot allow disco matangas then come January all pupils who did class eight get pregnant,” said Mandago.
The county chief noted that he will not stay mum while the future of young children is being destroyed.
He directed local administrators both for the county and national government to ensure the ban is fully adhered to.
“If disco matangas will be conducted, chiefs, Sub County administrators and ward administrators will be held responsible and stern actions will be taken against them,” Mandago warned.
He however advised parents as well as guardians to be close to their children during this long holiday season and closely monitor their activities to prevent them from engaging in unproductive activities.
He, however, called upon parents to interact with their children this long holiday and engage in domestic responsibilities to prevent them from idling and indulge in immoral activities.
