Political analyst, Martin Andati now says that Deputy President William Ruto’s current political well being and possible victory in the 2022 presidential election can be attributed to opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking on radio Jambo on Monday evening, Andati noted that Ruto’s quarters’ continued campaigns for his awaiting bid is thanks to Odinga’s move to embrace President Uhuru Kenyatta in their March 9 truce.
He added that the same has calmed the situation in a nation that was initially heavily polarised after President Uhuru Kenyatta’s disputed re-election last year, enabling Ruto to tour opposition regions like the Coast where he would otherwise be unwelcome.
‘’Ni baada ya Raila na Uhuru kushikana mikono ambapo ata Ruto ameweza kutembelea maeneo ya upinzani katika shughuli zake zinazoendelea (its only after the truce that Ruto can now comfortably tour opposition regions for his ongoing activities),’’ he said.
This comes at a time when his frequent trips to the Coast, a region that largely supported opposition leader Raila Odinga’s bid in the concluded poll, has seen him win over a section of leaders who have vowed to back him.
Such include Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa who was elected to office on Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in the August 8 elections.
