With the October 8 Migori Senatorial by-election drawing nearer, a number of opposers have since come out to challenge the area dominant party Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) over its preferred candidate.
Among the ones opposed to the party’s direct nomination of former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayacko is area Governor Okoth Obado, in what is now turning out to be a case of rebellion.
But as much as he has vowed to stand up against the opposition leader Raila Odinga-led side’s option, Obado will most likely emerge the main loser in his own bid.
This is because Raila enjoys almost total support in the region, a factor that will leave him with nowhere to hide his face after Ayacko wins the race with a landslide.
Obado will be fooling himself by thinking that he can survive the ODM wave in the region and might as well be declared unfriendly in a region where people who make such declarations disappear into political oblivion.
Therefore, he will still end up in the list of anti-Raila campaigners whose political careers ended up terribly, joining the list of the likes of fomer Rongo lawmaker Dalmas Otieno and his Rangwe counterpart Shem Ochuodho.
The county boss is actually lucky that Ayacko withdrew his initial petition against his August 8 reelection as otherwise he would have easily lost the seat in a by-election would another election be declared, judging by his daredevil stunt.
Any political attempt in the future by the Governor will equally be shot down, solely for opposing 'Baba' whose word is final in the region.
