On Friday, his successor in Education docket Amina Mohammed faulted the transaction that saw the ministry release hastily Sh1.5 billion to a city businessman.

Through Masaba North Jubilee Secretary General Titus Omao, the local leadership now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to replace the minister.

"His successor has faulted the land transaction yet he is still a free man. If the president has guts to fight corruption, he should start with Matiang'i.

"In fact, MPs should wake up and have him impeached. If this arrogance goes on then the president would be lying to himself on service delivery," he said in a joint statement.

Earlier, former Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire also waded into the debate, asking parliament to initiate impeachment process against the minister.

"He is not special and if at all we are genuine in this war, he should be held accountable for Sh.3.2 billion Ruaraka land saga," he said.
