Deputy President William Ruto is not just about to stop pitching tent in populous region despite making a whooping 20 trips in just under one year, North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko has said.

Cumulatively, Nyamira and Kisii Counties are projected to have a voting population of 1.3 million voters by 2022, making the region fertile for political competitions at the national level.

With Raila Odinga having controlled the region for a decade, Ruto has strategised to displace him with Mr Nyamoko, who doubles as Gusii MP spokesperson conceding that the trips are both political and developmental in nature.

"He will continue visiting Kisii and Nyamira counties to launch projects and campaign. So far the reception has been excellent,” Nyamoko said.

The MP who is the spokesman of Gusii lawmakers was responding to Timothy Bosire after the ODM official dismissed Ruto’s trips as an exercise in futility.

“Ruto is ready to face any presidential candidate in 2022 and people should not run scared,” Nyamoko said. Nyamoko was elected on a Jubilee party ticket.

Mr Bosire, the former Kitutu Masaba MP and now ODM treasurer, has been putting formidable resistance to block Ruto from infiltrating the region believed to be ODM zone.

In his recent remarks, Bosire poked holes at Ruto's persistent trips, arguing that they are empty in terms of development.

"He is usually here but we haven't seen anything tangible. He relaunches projects that were initiated many years ago. We can't accept that."

So far, the DP has managed to get hold of virtually all elected leaders from Kisii and Nyamira apart from Janet Ong'era, Governors John Nyagarama and James Ongwae along with Senators Sam Ongeri and Okong'o Mogeni.
