Before Eldoret Senior Magistrate Douglas Moseti, Mr Kinuthua, 29, denied killing the sixth year medical student early this month, who has since been buried.

State Prosecutor Fridah Mwanza asked the Magistrate to give her more time to investigate the murder, adding that the suspect is fit to stand trial.

"Your honour, we request this honourable court to allow the suspect to be held at Naiberi Police Station," said Ms Mwanza.

At Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital early this month, Mr Kinuthua reportedly told DCI boss Ali Kingi that he committed the crime after the victim failed to reciprocate.

After treatment in MTRH, he was reminded in Eldoret Prison awaiting trial. Mr Kinuthua is said to have been a childhood friend of the deceased, with details of their alleged relationship remaining scanty.

“We interrogated the suspect who is recuperating at the hospital. He admitted that he killed the student due to rejection," Kingi said.

Ivy's death was condemned by several politicians among them Moses Kuria and Oscar Sudi. On Tuesday, a KDF officer allegedly killed three others before taking his own life, not far from the scene where Ivy was murdered.
