The number of street children in Eldoret town is increasing at an alarming rate. No one would like to be 'Chokosh'. The name itself sounds unhealthy and dirty.

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

Street children never wanted to be in the streets. They found themselves without homes.

They choose to run to the streets when their parents become too harsh for them. Some even born there.

These are the main reasons why Eldoret carries more "Chokosh"

1. Plenty of food

Eldoret remains the source of most food supplies to Kenya. Maize being the best crop. This means Ugali in hotels and restaurants remains forcing owners to throw it to pits and dumping sites. This becomes street childrens' food. Everyone will find refuge where food is plenty.

2. Availability of Water

In science, we learn that water is life. Without water, living things will perish. River Sosiani passes through Eldoret town. The street children find a place to take bath though rarely. Supply of water by ELDOWAS is sufficient. This helps them to survive by tapping from the car wash and other possible places to drink.

3. Good Samaritans

All day through, you find street children begging in busy streets. Good Samaritans always give them a small amount they can. At the end of the day, these street children can find something to eat from a kiosk.

Street children are humans. They, therefore, deserve support. Give them what you can and save a life. The County Government of Uasin Gishu, as well as the National Government, should put in place measures to improve their living and make them feel what good life tastes like.
