Sonko says that assessments are being carried out by the National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA) and other agencies to establish whether the multi-million apartments sit on a river.

Speaking to journalists in Nairobi on Friday, the governor said that preliminary analysis shows that the 12-floor building sits on riparian land.

“More assessment is still going on and once complete, appropriate action will be taken,” he said.

Sonko stated that all buildings constructed on road reserves or riparian land will be brought down.

He refuted claims that the multi-agency team leading the demolition on riparian land has suspended its activities.

“We are doing an evaluation of the demolition exercise so far and soon all rogue buildings will be brought down,” he added.

NEMA has issued a 30 days notice to owners of Seefar apartments and tenants to vacate.

The environmental authority says the apartments are constructed on riparian land, a claim the owner’s refute.

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has opposed demolition plan saying it does not consider interests of the tenants.
