Manskuh told the Senate Ad-hoc Committee he gave Sh35 million to provincial administration officers to give out to the victims of the tragedy.

The tycoon said the amount was compensation to those who lost lives and property.

The committee said victims received peanuts out of the cash given with a possibility of some administrators ‘stealing’ the other share.

It also raised issues of conflict of interest as administrators were used by the tycoon to distribute the cash yet they were also expected to investigate the crime scene.

As the investigations continue, victims lament the loss they encountered.“We were given Sh50, 000 over our lost kins,” one victim said.

According to the Senate committee, local leaders including some MPs and MCA as well as county administrators have been implicated in the 'scam'.
