The day of love is around the corner.  The colour synonymous with love, red, will rent the air for the entire day. From clothes, shoes, handbags, and the crown of the day, flowers, towns will be painted red as people show love.

Eldoret and Kalenjins to be specific will not be left behind. However, there will be a little reluctance in wearing the colour red, and for the following reasons;

It’s too conspicuous

The colour red is conspicuous. You will be seen from miles away by people. In events and gathering, it will be much easier to identify you, and sometimes you become the fodder of gossip, where statements will begin like, ‘did you see the daughter of so and so?’’ who didn’t, she was in red.’

Superstitions

The Kalenjins have a few superstitions concerning the colour red. Some say that cows do not like the colour, while some say that it attracts lightning. Others associate it with death, where some people will never allow you to write their name using a red pen.

Kalenjins are not overt lovers

Kalenjins generally do not like displaying affection, especially in public. A man and his wife will not be seen walking together most of the times. Lovers may walk miles apart from each other. As such the colour red will be a show to the public that you are in love.
