The Supreme Court has upheld a Court of Appeal verdict that nullified the election of Ugenya MP Chris Karan.
The apex court on Friday ruled that Karan was not validly elected.
It further directed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to conduct a fresh parliamentary election in the constituency.
The ruling is a win for former Ugenya MP David Ochieng who filed a petition protesting against Karan's win.
In the petition, Ochieng argued that his rival and the opposing party used smear campaigns against him.
According to the ex-legislator, his competitors accused him of being involved in the murder of slain IEBC manager Chris Msando, a move that affected his bid.
