A man has been nabbed for allegedly defiling and impregnating a 16-year-old girl in Makueni County.
The suspect, a pastor of Good News Church of Africa (GNCA) allegedly tricked the minor and defiled her.
He was arrested by police officers on Sunday.
Confirming the incident, Makueni Police boss Bosita Omukolongolo said the man was held at Makueni Police Station and will soon be arraigned in court once investigations are complete.
"Yes, the man is in custody but he hasn't been arraigned in court. The law is clear that a suspect must appear in court within 24 hours after arrest but we had to ask the court for permission to conduct investigations," Omukolongolo said.
He said police were in advance stage of the investigations and the man will be arraigned in court anytime once investigations are over.
"Once investigations are over, we will have no choice but take the man to court and face defilement charges," Omukolongolo added.
Makueni residents who were so much irked with the news bitterly condemned the crime wondering why the 'shepherd' suddenly turned on his sheep.
"I thought pastors should be on the forefront in guiding the public in doing good deeds, if he's really guilty it will be a total shame," said Lewis Kiilu, a trader in Wote town.
