Speaking to members of the press during an inspection of how the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) is being implemented, CS Prof Magoha said that his critics were confusing his firmness with arrogance.

He said that he was born firm and would die firm.

"I was born firm and I shall die firm. Some people take that to be arrogance, it is not arrogance at all. In order for me to do what I have to, I shall have to be firm. So that one we shall not negotiate about that. So please don't mistake me for being arrogant. I respect those who must be respected irrespective of your position in the society," the education cabinet secretary said.

His remarks come amid an ongoing stand-off between the Ministry of Education and the Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) over the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC).

Knut's secretary-general Wilson Sossion has called on teachers not to implement the CBC as demanded by the Ministry of Education.

The outspoken Knut boss claims that the teachers were not consulted on the implementation of the new curriculum that has divided opinion.
