A man was on Monday arraigned in a Nairobi Court with the murder of a Kenyatta University (KU) student.
The man, Sergent Dismus Gitenge Motongwa reportedly drove 3 kilometers with body of the deceased stuck on the car following the incident in July 2018 near NextGen Mall, Mombasa Road.
Motongwa was convicted for causing the death of 22-year-old Maureen Wambui Gachagua.
While delivering his ruling on the case, trial Magistrate Elekta Riany said that the suspect had been over speeding before he caused the death.
The court also said that the evidence presented in court proved beyond doubt that the man caused the accident.
“The number plate had blood that was confirmed to belong to the deceased,” the court said as quoted by Citizen Digital
Mr Motongwa had presented himself to the Lang’ata police station where he claimed he wanted an abstract after knocking down an animal, only to discover it was a human being.
The court faulted the man for lying in public.
“No one can avoid accident, but the way one handles the case after is what matters,” noted the court.
The girl met her death after she was knocked down by the driver moments after he left Next Gen-Mall.
