The family of Irene Jepchumba, who was a lecturer at the Rift Valley Institute of Science and Technology, is suspecting their daughter was raped before being strangled to death.
Jepchumba’s body was retrieved from Molo River days after her estranged boyfriend said she had slipped into the waters while taking a selfie on July 6 during an excursion.
He was however arrested on July 12 after a post-mortem on the body showed the deceased had strangulation marks on her neck.
Her body was also half-naked when it was retrieved.
The family suspects their beloved daughter was raped on the material day before her attacker killed her.
The suspect has however denied killing her.
Investigators have asked the court for permission to extract DNA samples from the suspect to allow piecing together of more evidence over the suspected murder.
