Orange Democratic Movement Party 'rebels' from the coast led by MPs Aisha Jumwa and Suleiman Dori of Malindi and Msambweni respectively have vowed to vehemently oppose constitutional changes that were initiated by NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking at Gongoni, in Magarini Sub-county during the distribution of title deeds by Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday, Jumwa said Kilifi County will not be scrapped because of a referendum.
In his address at the same function, Dori said that those behind the referendum want to create jobs for their friends by scraping some counties.
Dori said, “we must oppose the changes to our constitution because only a few will benefit. Our counties will remain intact and operational."
Addressing the gathering, Governor of Kwale Salim Mvurya said that what devolution has brought in Kenya is recommendable, and condemned those fighting for constitutional changes.
“Because of the fruits Kwale people have enjoyed from devolution, people of Kwale are not ready to see their county is disbanded,” Mvurya added.
