Speaking during an exclusive interview, the politician, Hezron Okiki who unsuccessfully contested for the Nakuru Town West Parliamentary seat on an ODM ticket said the country has gone through a lot since the 2017 August polls.

Okiki noted that now is the time for leaders to unite and ensure development for the people at the grass root level.

He said the position of the presidency is an elective one and not reserved for any individual.

"Kenyans will decide by themselves. Let the leaders join in the handshake in healing the country," noted the politician.

While noting the big role played by the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Opposition Leader Raila Odinga in uniting the country, Okiki called on those opposed to the unity to re-think and join in uniting Kenyans.

He added that if it were not for the handshake, then the country could be in a bad state.

The famous handshake happened at the time the country was experiencing high political temperatures that were occasioned by a heated presidential contest between Uhuru and Odinga which later culminated to a mock swearing in that threatened to split the country into two.
