According to Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma, the county leadership has been reluctant to work in reaction to the recently ended court battle.

Speaking on Milele FM's Kivumbi Show on Thursday morning, Kaluma claimed that area Governor Cyprian Awiti has not been working and has been waiting for the outcome of the petition filed against his 2017 reelection.

"The county has been stagnant all the time we were in court. The governor has been using the petition as an excuse to not work, driving the county to a pathetic state," he said.

He added that Awiti seems to have been unwilling to work for fear of losing his effort in the instance that the petitioner Oyugi Magwanga beat him in court.

Consequently, he said, the county is still grappling with water shortage despite bordering Lake Victoria, the other problem being its inability to provide women with trading stalls.

"There was fear that he would lose it all were he to lose to Magwanga. We now hope that he will use the approval of his reelection to do what he couldn't do initially," said Kaluma.

Magwanga, also a former Kasipul Kabondo parliamentarian, was Awiti's main challenger in the 2017 elections and had moved to court to oppose his reelection.

The case reached the Supreme Court level where Awiti was declared duly elected.

Both leaders are allies of opposition leader Raila Odinga and are in office on his Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
