It was an all-Kenya affair as host teams were reduced to spectators during the 3rd edition of the SportPesa cup staged at the National Main Stadium, Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday.
Kariobangi Sharks playing the tournament for the second time needed an inspiration from Harrison Mwendwa to overcome local rivals and debutant Bandari FC 1 - 0 and set a date with the EPL side, Everton.
Bandari proved a hard nut to crack and gave Sharks a run for their money in what proved to be a cut-throat affair, but it was Mwendwa's superb goal on the hour mark that proved the difference between the two sides.
The Kenya Shield Cup holders broke into songs and dance at the final whistle, taking home a cool Sh3 million and the ticket to face Everton in a friendly match later this year.
The Dockers too had something to celebrate, winning Sh1 million, with midfield maestro William Wadri named the tourney's most valuable player.
Meanwhile, Dar giants Simba FC came third after edging out debutant and local rivals Mbao FC 5 - 3 on post-match penalties.
Simba took home Sh 750,000, while Mbao bagged Sh500,000.
Sharks coach William Muluya couldn't hide his joy as he praised his players for the spirited fight and excellent play.
"I'm happy of my players for the exemplary display and they really deserved to win," a delighted Muluya said
