Uasin Gishu County Assembly has passed a motion to reshuffle its house committee members to enhance efficiency.
While moving the motion, the Leader of Majority Josephat Lowoi said the selection committee reshuffled the committees so as to improve efficiency and address complaints of members who were being required to sit in clashing committees.
“When we realigned the committee last year September there was quite clashing of committees. You find one member is supposed to sit in two committees at the same time which is impossible,” said Lowoi.
He noted that as the selection committee, they received the complains which is when the assembly in its wisdom decided to realign the committees.
“[A] committee is the only vehicle that carry the agenda of the house and if the committees are good, the house is good. We want committees that will necessitate the development of the county,” he added.
David Singoei, the Chief Whip, supported the motion saying the new committees are in line with assembly's calendar.
He further praised the assembly for being the only one in Kenya that allows all the members to serve either as chair or vice chair.
Deputy Speaker Hosea Korir presided over the session.
