Nyamira County government finalised installation of multimillion equiptment at County Referral Hospital even as it emerged that President Uhuru Kenyatta would not tour the county.
Kisii Governor James Ongwae had hinted that the president would tour both Kisii and Nyamira, prompting Governor John Nyagarama's team to finalise the modern theater, the first of it's kind in Kenya.
"We are committed towards implementation of the Big Four agenda and healthcare is one of our priorities. We have set several health projects across the county and this theatre is one of them.
"We were hopeful that the president would launch it but we are told he will not make it. However, as a county, we shall ensure it's functional in the next few weeks to serve our people," said health minister Douglas Bosire.
On Wednesday, the President will open a modern Oncology center, doctors hostel among other projects in Kisii County following the invitation of Governor James Ongwae.
By Sunday, all indications were that Uhuru would visit Nyamira as a good gesture following a meeting between him and Governor Nyagarama in Kisumu last December but it's unclear why he changed his mind.
ODM treasurer Timothy Bosire has blamed the county leadership for the president's decision to cancel the trip, accusing leaders of failing to bargain independently.
"These shows that these people are never serious. They are walking in the shadows of Kisii yet we are a county on our own," he lamented.
