While on a visit to Kisumu, President Uhuru Kenyatta hinted to a possible referendum to overhaul the system of governance in the country.

Uhuru argued that the current system of ‘winner-takes-all’ has been causing animosity among Kenyans as some feel left out of the government when their choice of candidate loses the election for the presidency.

“We said we must look at this issue of winner takes all. If that is why some people feel left out of government, we must ask ourselves, 'Is is a good thing or not',” Uhuru said.

Uhuru’s deputy, however, has hit back saying the problems witnessed every electioneering people is because ‘some people do not want to accept defeat’.

“We must agree that Kenya is a democratic country and people should accept defeat (during elections). The problem with elections (in Kenya) is that when someone is defeated, they cause problem,” Ruto said.

The remarks are likely to stir political controversy especially within the Jubilee administration where it seems the President and his deputy are reading from different scripts.
