The Ford Kenya Party has weighed in on the heating Gender Bill debate, as some lawmakers attempt to increase the number of female representatives in Parliament.
The party has rallied all its lawmakers in both the National Assembly and the Senate in support of the two-thirds gender bill.
Speaking to the press from the Elementaita Country Lodge in Nakuru County on Sunday, the party leader Moses Wetangula said that the party members have unanimously agreed to back the bill.
“Ford Kenya joins other Kenyans of goodwill and we have unanimously agreed to support the two-thirds gender rule Bill as it comes for a vote next week,” he is quoted by the Nation.
The Garissa Township MP Aden Duale-sponsored bill is set to be tabled for the second reading in the National Assembly this week, after its initial consideration in the past week.
It enjoys the support of the nation's top political leaders including President Uhuru Kenyatta, his Deputy William Ruto, opposition chief Raila Odinga and Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
It has also received a clean bill of health from most female lawmakers, most of whom observe that it will boost gender parity in both the house and the nation.
