Deputy President William Ruto was at his usual best in cracking jokes on Sunday when he made a stop over at Githurai in Juja constituency on Sunday.

While addressing residents, Dr Ruto revealed to them that he had not taken any food since morning, prompting his supporters to to go into laughter. He thereafter thanked them for selling him roast maize.

"Asanteni sana mmeniuzia mahindi hapa, nilikuwa na njaa. Eeh nilikuwa na njaa mingi sana. Eeeh nilikuwa njaa," said Ruto as the crowd laughed. (Thank you for selling me maize here. I was pretty hungry. It's true I was very hungry).

The Deputy President had on Thursday during the prayer breakfast meeting at Safari Park Hotel, offered you collect Raila Odinga's CV and submit it to Britain, a move that provoked ODM team.

Before the Githurai function, a number of his allies had asked the Central Bank of Kenya to reduce the timeline in phasing out Sh1,000 notes.

“There are some people who think some of us are hiding bags of money in our houses, let the deadline be moved so that the truth can come out. Kenyans want to know the thieves,” said Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro.

Dr Ruto is not stranger to taking roasted maize on roadsides and he usually makes references to his disadvantaged background during his youthful days.
