Speaking during an interview with TV on Monday morning said the beggars will be removed from the streets and be taken to better areas.

“So far we have arrested about 11 beggars who have bene begging in the streets in Mombasa. There is no ill intention in removing the beggars from the streets but we are taking them to better areas such rehabilitation centers where they can get help instead of begging in the streets,” he noted.

Amir denied claims that the county reinforcement officers have been harassing the beggars saying the information being spread is false and misleading.

“How can we harass a disabled person? Some people are spreading propaganda to remain relevant. Residents should ignore such allegations and help the county to remove the beggars from the streets,” he added.

He warned residents against using disabled persons to beg for money from people.

Amir added that the crackdown on beggars will continue until the streets will be clear, free from street beggars.
