The humanitarian crisis in Tana River County is worse than had initially been estimated, Governor Dhadho Godana has said.
This is after heavy rains continued pounding across the County, causing floods that have wrecked havoc, displacing thousands of residents.
Over 228,000 people are said to have been left homeless and 11 killed in floods even as rescue and search operations by the County Government, and the Kenya Red Cross continue.
Governor Dhadho Godana said 70 percent of the county has been cut off completely and can only be accessed by boats or helicopters.
Mororo and Galana Kulalu are some of the regions that have been seen residents displaced after being marooned by floods.
Tana River County Kenya Red Cross Coordinator Jackson Bombe said over 6,0000 families had been displaced.
The neighbouring Kilifi county has also been affected, forcing the KDF to intervene.
"We have disbursed nonfood items to 2,000 families in Madogo, 300 families in Garsen, 600 families in Galole but this is a drop in the ocean due to the magnitude of the disaster," Bombe told the press.
