Eleven suspects are being detained at the Makongeni Police Station after they were nabbed for allegedly operating an illegal Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refilling station in Thika.
Confirming the incident, Thika West OCPD Willy Simba said the culprits are believed to be employees of Rash Energy Ltd, an LPG filling company.
The firm is located in Thika’s Umoja area, an estate in Makongeni location.
The operation was led by multi-agency team comprising of officers from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), the Anti-Counterfeit, Pharmacy & Poisons Board, The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and police drawn from both Thika and Makongeni Police Stations, Thika Town Today has reported.
The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on Monday, to answer to charges or running the illegal business.
