Hacking has been a threat to everyone including the government. Just recently, up to 18 government websites were hacked by Indonesian Cyber attackers.
It is very unfortunate that it’s us, who expose ourselves to this risky attack. Many people when travelling exchange in some activities that leave them vulnerable to hacking.
Here are five ways you expose your identity to theft:
Using public Wi-Fi
Many people are fond of connecting their devices to public Wi-Fi. Some cyber attackers will create their own rogue Wi-Fi so that when you connect to it you get hacked and all your data collected.
Not installing an antivirus in your device
Many people use their laptops without any antivirus. This leaves it vulnerable to hacking. Not installing leaves your laptop open and thus cybercriminals can access it and nothing will detect their illegal activities.
Charging in public USB ports
Many people when travelling charge their phones, tablets and laptops in public USB ports. Cybercriminals who target some people can install the malware in hotel rooms, public places, vehicles and even planes so that when you connect your device they will access it. To be safe, always make sure your phone is always full when travelling.
Logging in to connected computers
Many people when travelling access their accounts in cyber cafes. These places have connected computers that have one server. Attackers can install the malware in one of the computers so that when you access any of them, they will follow all that you type and access your account.
Using the same password for all accounts
Most people use the same password for all their accounts. This becomes risky when attackers hack one of your accounts. They will use it trying to access all your accounts and it will be easy for them knowing you use one password. Always use strong passwords for different accounts.
