Chemno says this will help to protect Kenyans from self-centred pastors whose aim is to exploit their flock as well as end the mushrooming of fake churches.

“We want the churches of this country to work with the government so that false religious teachers are not licensed to operate since churches have become cash cows for some pastors,” said Chemno.

“We have seen pastors conning their believers through the building of cooperative movements, it's high time the government attacks to bring sanity. The bill is on point and should be supported by all Kenyans of good will,” he added.

Addressing journalists in Eldoret town on Sunday, Chemno noted that as the Uasin Gishu County leadership, they honour religion but one that brings honour and not disgrace by exploiting its innocent members.

The deputy governor, however, urged the government to consult church leaders through public participation before passing the bill.

This comes after Kigano promised to table a bill in parliament seeking to re-enact laws regulating the formation and registration of churches in the country and to put in place more stringent laws to stop the exploitation of church members.
