Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior, and Makueni MP Dan Maanzo are the lawyers from Ukambani in the defense team of the embattled Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu.
The trio is among the 32 lawyers who have appeared in 'weighty' cases before.
Others include Okong’o Omogeni (Nyamira), Senior Counsel John Khaminwa, Senators James Orengo (Siaya), MPs Anthony Oluoch (Mathare) Peter Kaluma (Homa Bay) and Millie Odhiambo (Suba North).
On his part, Kalonzo appeared in court in defense of a suspect after 30 years.
In his submission, Kalonzo Maintained that Mwilu was innocent after she was accused of graft-related claims.
Mwilu was arrested at the Supreme Court following the command from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Haji Noordin.
Mwilu has, however, said Haji has no powers to arrest her over misuse of office.
The arrest has also attracted the attention of Deported lawyer Miguna Miguna who has termed the act as unconstitutional.
He claims Mwilu’s arrest is been driven by her role in the nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s win in the last general elections.
“Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu is in the dock because she nullified Uhuru Kenyatta's electoral fraud. Her bodyguard was maimed for the same reason. Meanwhile, Wafula Chebukati, Ezra Chiloba, Davis Chirchir and those who stole the election for Uhuru Kenyatta are free, having abused public office and misappropriated more than Sh100 billion in phony procurements and delinquent technology,” Miguna said.
