Vicky who died at a hospital in Nakuru on April 17 was a daughter to the late ex-minister and powerful MP Kipkalya Kones and step-daughter to Bomet East MP Beatrice Kones.

The cause of her death had not been made public until during her burial ceremony when the family disclosed that Vicky had actually died because of alcoholism.

While eulogising her step-daughter, Kones revealed how alcoholism led the late Vicky to her grave.

“It is in the public domain that Chebet bravely battled alcoholism, drug and substance abuse. Perhaps this should serve as a wake-up call to the many, especially the youth, who are currently under the influence," she said.

During a past interview with Hivisasa, Chebet had admitted that she was a former addict and that she had recovered after going through the rehabilitation process.

“I am approaching 40 years now but I have been an alcohol and drug addict since my teenage. Actually I began at the age of 12,” she said.

Nakuru senator Susan Kihika and his Kericho counterpart Aaron Cheruiyot are among the leaders who attended Vicky's last send off.

The two senators applauded the family for making the cause of their daughter death public as it will serve as a lesson to many youths.
