In an interview on Citizen TV Tuesday evening, the lawmaker said that Uhuru's failure to reiterate his initial vow to back his deputy as his successor is most likely deliberate.

The young parliamentarian noted that Ruto is spoiling it for himself, courtesy of the continued politicking from his camp, despite Uhuru's calls for political calm.

And in retaliation for denying him a suitable space to realize his development agenda and legacy, he said, Uhuru could end up backing another candidate altogether.

"The President has told Jubilee Party members to quit politicking and help him realize his agenda but some people around Ruto are doing the exact opposite," said Ngujiri.

He further warned that "any other person in the President's position would have it hard supporting a person who did not help him when he needed their help."

Uhuru has been urging politicians to quit politicking and instead join him and opposition leader Raila Odinga in their development and unity campaign.

And though Ruto has been shying away from the political debate since the March 9 truce between the two leaders, he recently broke his silence and defied the President.

Speaking when he hosted delegations from Busia, Bungoma, Vihiga and Bomet counties at his home in Sugoi on Wednesday and Thursday, he said that he is ready for the 2022 contest.
