Kisumu County will host the 1st Kisumu International Conference on Adequate and Affordable housing from March 19, to March 21.
The event which is being organized by the Kisumu County Government, in conjunction with Grassroots Trust, Kenya Female Advisory Organization (KEFEADO) among others, will be held at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel Riat, with participants expected from across the world.
According to Grassroots Trust Coordinator Lawrence Apiyo, the conference is in line with the Sustainable Development Goal number 11 of making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
Mr Apiyo said that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 recognizes the right to adequate housing as an important component of the right to adequate standard of living.
He added that the conference will help improve engagement between organizations dealing with housing and urban development with the national and county housing policies.
“Every Person has a right to accessible and adequate housing and to a reasonable standard of sanitation,” he said while addressing members of the press in Kisumu last Thursday.
In the end, this will ensure the progressive realization of the right to adequate housing by providing low-income groups with housing.
